Koh Samui Map & Tourist Info![]() Chaweng BeachChaweng Beach, located on Koh Samui's east coast, is the most developed and lively area on the island. It attracts many young travelers and families alike, and remains good value for the money. The beach is approximately 7 Km long, with powdery white sand. It is bordered by dreamy, emerald-blue waters and a coral reef where waves break, leaving the bay quite peaceful. Two small islands are close to the reef -- the nearest one can easily be accessed by walking through the shallow waters. The second island, further out and larger, provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy snorkeling and kayaking. Bring shoes if you plan to walk around the islands, as they are made of sharp coral sands.
The central part of the beach is a bit more crowded than the quieter north. Many vendors pass by offering beverages, fruit, ice cream and local Thai food for the more daring. A variety of local crafts and Thai souvenirs are also available Chaweng Noi Beach"We just got back from staying at the Imperial as well and had a fantastic time - we were so pleased we stayed at Chaweng Noi rather than Chaweng - Chaweng is very busy & noisy - Chaweng Noi is a very picturesque part of the beach, it is quieter but still has some lovely resturants close by and when you want to it is easy to get to Chaweng - nice 15 - 20min walk along the beach, or catch the hotel shuttle or a local cab/taxi truck - all very cheap and easy to use" Hotels on Chaweng Noi Beach ![]() Lamai Beach"At night there is a bar just outside Lamai Wanta called The Lava Lounge - this is a lovely cocktail bar and the guy who owns it is called Frank - he is very nice - Irish so very funny - also his wife is called Ice and she is lovely. There are loads of bars etc., If you go straight ahead at the top of the road there is a big restaurant bar called El Dorado - they do lovely food and they have a big pool table for the kids.
Also at the top of the road is The Outback Bar where they also have a pool table and Happy Hour till 8pm - this is not a girlie bar. There are plenty of nice restaurants including the fish restaurants at Lamai Plaza. Our favourtie place to eat was on the beach - just wander down and stop at any restaurant, pick your fresh fish and watch the stars - perfect." Bo Phut BeachBophut Beach sits between Maenam and Big Buddha Beach on Samui's northern coast. There is a slightly quieter and more laid back feel than the larger Chaweng and Lamai Beaches, and it is very popular with people who don't want to be in the thick of Samui's hedonistic nightlife areas. Bophut is also known as Fisherman's Village. Fisherman's village is considered the most traditional and well-preserved place on the island, and is a welcome sight for people who are not so keen on the heavier development on other parts of the island. The village takes up the middle section of Bophut Beach and is lined with traditional Chinese, wooden shop houses. The modern buildings here blend in nicely, and certainly don't spoil the traditional feel to the place.
Bophut Beach itself spans about two miles, and it is one of the most idyllic spots on the island, sporting beautiful white sandy beaches, dotted with coconut palms. Bophut Beach tends to be quieter than the beaches on the islands east coast and there are also some great views out to Koh Pha Ngan. Historically, as the nickname suggests, this was a fishing village, and there are still a small number of local fishing boats continuing this traditional lifestyle. |
